All About Dryer Repair Problems

The dryer in your home help makes laundry chores a breeze. It does so much for you. If it breaks down, you have a big problem with drying your clothes. There are many problems that can stop the dryer from operating properly. You should be aware of some of the most common dryer repair problems and how to fix them. This article provides information on some of the most common dryer repair problems.

Dryer Not Spinning

This is one of the most common dryer repair problems affecting the majority of homeowners. This can happen due to a broken dryer belt or worn out drum rollers. The belt helps the drum turn. When the belt gets loose or breaks, the drum will not spin as usual. Drum rollers are important to assist the drum to turn. When the rollers wear down, they won't move freely and the drum will not spin. You need to replace these parts to get the drum turning once again.

Dryer Not Heating

This is another common repair problem of the dryer. First, check the heating element to see if the thermal fuse is working properly. A blown thermal fuse can cause the drum to stop heating. They are safety devices in the drum to prevent it from overheating. The heating element itself can be burned out. This is another cause for the dryer to not heat. If this is the case, you need to replace the heating element of the dryer. If the thermal fuse or heating element isn't the problem, check the thermostat and flame sensor. These can also be at fault for the problem.

Why Is My Dryer Not Starting?

First check to make sure the dryer door is closing properly, so open the door and then firmly close the door.  Next make sure the dryer is getting power, press the buttons on the dryer display, if they do not light up, then make sure the dryer is plugged in correctly, if it is then try resetting the breaker.  If your home has a fuse box, check to see if the fuse is bad.

Why Is My Dryer Not Heating?

Check your thermal fuse to make sure it's connected properly and has not overheated. Test the heating element for continuity, as heating elements can burn out over time.

Why Is My Dryer Taking Too Long To Dry?

If you are using air fluff or air dry, these cycles do not use heat and as a result they take longer to dry clothes than a regular cycle that does use heat.  Check the dryer vent to make sure it's not clogged with lint. Check the dryer vent hose from the dryer to the wall to make sure it's not crushed or kinked. Ideally you want the vent hose to be as straight as possible, if it is bent too much it can restrict the airflow which will result in longer drying times.
